Little Lambs
February, 2013

Dear Families,
Oh how sweet February is!  Hearts, valentines, candy, and fuzzy groundhogs will usher in spring! Here are a few updates from our room: our younger babies are working on developing their motor skills so that they gain more control over their bodies, and our older babies are working on sitting on their own, pulling up to standing, and using their hands to manipulate small toys. As for our one year old’s, we are working on using a spoon during mealtimes, sitting at the table, and using our baby signs. We will be having a Valentine’s Day party on February 14th. Becky will be providing fun finger foods for our celebration!  Also, look for a special treat in your child’s folder that day!
Some of our themes for this month include Red Hearts, Penguins, and Dental Care. When your baby begins to get teeth, it is important to start brushing his/her teeth. Even before he/she gets any teeth, you can use wipes to massage that area. This month we will be using tooth brushes for a sensory/art activity. We may also have some new ones available to “chew” on so that the babies get used to the feel of a toothbrush in their mouths. We also have some new teething toys that your little ones will get to explore called razybaby teethers and nuby nibblers. If you are not sure what these are, be sure to ask Becky for a demo!
Some highlights from last month included finger painting with paints and water splashing in the high chairs.  These activities were a huge hit! This month we will get to explore finger painting with jelly and make some fun handprint and footprint art! We will also be bringing back the swimming pool filled with balls for the babies to play in!
Be on the lookout for a handout on some of the baby sign language signs we use in our room. I will get these into your child’s folder this week. We use signs continually, especially at mealtimes. Perhaps you might see your older baby using these signs at home to express his/her wants.
If your toddler has taken to spinning around the room in a somewhat graceful dance, ask if they are being a "Teddy Bear." One of our new favorite songs and motions is Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear turn around.
Remember to check out our parent bulletin board for our lesson plan, recipe of the month, and other newsworthy items.

We wish you a blessed, love-filled month!
