Cars, Trucks and More!

I set up a car washing station for our outdoor water play this afternoon. Originally I was just going to wash all our dump trucks and toy cars but then I thought they might have more fun actually washing the push cars. I brought out wash rags, and they had more fun doing that then playing with the cars in water. Please bring in swim diapers/swimsuits and sun hats, it looks like the warmer weather is here to stay and that means more water play!

This morning we had fun driving our toy cars all around the classroom. It's even more fun when our little people figures and animals fit in the cars.

and well then there's problem solving...

For Art and Sensory we had fun rolling our cars in paint. Colors were picked out by Frankie and Hailey.

Everytime we go outside we look for frogs especially after it rains. Logan spotted a frog right away near our sandbox. We love our frogs, don't worry we wash our hands when we go inside!

I have some smart toddlers!

Today I painted their feet yellow to make diggers. Some are still hesitant about getting their feet painted because it tickles so much, so I let them paint my feet first! Why should they get all the fun?!

So about 11:00am to 11:15am right before lunch time we sit down on the rug and we do language time which consists of these fun ABC Eric Carle flashcards. I really like these cards because they contain some of the animals from Carle's popular books, and a variety of new ones. One con is that some of the animals are kind of obscure. They sit so well while we practice saying the letter along with the animals on the other side. I love to hear their new vocabulary that they are learning!

I think we may have a few cross country runners in this group, they are getting so fast running in the grass. We did have to stop a few times and pick up some pine cones during our walk. Some of the toddlers decided to sneak a few into our classroom as well!

Let's go for a walk!

We love taking walks in the grass usually it's in the mornings because they all have so much energy. Friday morning however they were just crazy, not listening and just doing their own things. So I made them find a friend and hold onto their friends hands.

Play Dough Fun!

Well as it turns out the toddlers really love playing with play dough, the older ones kept busy for 30 minutes while the younger toddlers played with it for 15 minutes. However this stuff is very messy, and they tracked it everywhere around the room so if you do make this it might be a good idea to play with it outside.

Fine and Gross Motor Skills

We have had a lot of fine motor activities this week including, knob puzzles, play dough, squeezing rubber gloves filled with water, scribbling with crayons and stamping with cookie cutters. This afternoon we worked on scooping up the water and pouring it out into an empty bucket. This took practice but they all managed to complete the task with lots of encouragement!

Here's a few more fine motor things you can work on at home too!
(We encourage them to do these things at school, we ask them to tell us if they need help by either saying it or signing it.) Ask us if you would like to know the sign for "help"
  • unzipping their jackets
  • putting their shoes on and taking them off
  • using a spoon and fork at meal times
  • transitioning to a cup at mealtimes or during teeth brushing
  • learning to pull down their pants and trying to pull them up

We work on our gross motor skills every day. It helps your toddlers gain strength and confidence in his/her body. We have been taking many walks, running down the grass hill, climbing on the big playground, crawling through tunnels, kicking soccer balls and so much more. Today we took a walk and found many sticks along the way!
